A marble block is the rawest and purest form of natural stone. We are talking about large-scale masses that have not yet been sliced or polished but already carry all their potential within. For an architect or investor, block selection is the first critical step that simultaneously defines the visual identity and technical durability of a project. With our three-generation natural stone supply experience, we have seen many times how decisive this step is. Our family story, which stretched from Trabzon Sürmene to Saraylar on Marmara Island in 1962, has brought us to a position that combines intuition and technical knowledge in block selection.
The blocks we source from Marmara Island quarries are the product of one of Turkey's most established marble basins. The Pijama Block, Panda Block, Homogeneous Block, and Classic Block varieties we select from the Saraylar region each offer different vein structures and color palettes. Pijama Blocks create a dramatic visual effect in floor and wall applications with their parallel-running dark veins. Panda Blocks are known for the sharp black veins that form a contrast on the white ground. Homogeneous Blocks are preferred in architectural projects looking for plainer, calmer surfaces. Classic Blocks carry the familiar character of traditional Marmara marble in all of its naturalness.
The first criterion evaluated in the block selection process is mass integrity. Whether a block contains hidden cracks, micro fractures, or structural weaknesses is determined through visual inspection and an experience-based preliminary check. As we receive blocks from our partner quarries on Marmara Island, we pay attention to having clean corners, clean surfaces, and dimensions consistent with standard pallets. Standard block dimensions are generally between 270 and 320 cm in length, 160 and 180 cm in width, and around 150 and 180 cm in height. These dimensions form a range suitable for both shipment equipment and slab cutting lines.
Color and vein consistency is another factor that directly affects supply decisions, especially on large-scale architectural projects. The vein direction and tone harmony of marble to be used in a hotel lobby or the entrance hall of a corporate building must be planned in advance at the block level. For this reason, if multiple blocks are to be sourced for the same project, the blocks should be selected from the same quarry vein, and if possible, from consecutive cutting sequences. Working together with our partner workshops, we provide project-specific block matching services. This approach allows the panels to form an uninterrupted natural stone surface once installed.
