A marble countertop is one of the largest surfaces that defines the design language of a kitchen or bathroom. With the right type of marble and the right care, a countertop can hold its original appearance for decades.
Dimensions and cutting are the first technical decision in countertop planning. The countertop thickness is typically chosen as 2 cm, and 3 cm is selected for a stronger profile. Using a single slab on the island countertop and keeping seams to a minimum guarantees visual continuity. The front profile may be straight, beveled, ogee, or bullnose, chosen according to the overall style of the kitchen. Sink types (undermount, overmount, integrated) are determined by use habits and architectural preference.
Marble type selection shapes both the aesthetics and longevity of the countertop. In heavily used areas such as kitchens, Dolomite marble is recommended due to its higher hardness. In aesthetically driven bathrooms, classic Marmara white or Panda marble creates a contrast-rich look. In every case, care should be taken with acidic liquids and an impregnator should be applied; this measure multiplies the stone's stain resistance.
Joint and seam details play a large role in the long-term appearance of the countertop. When a seam is unavoidable on the countertop, the joint is positioned parallel to the vein direction so that the line visually disappears. Joint filling is done with color-matched epoxy and does not darken over time. The experience of the craftsperson doing the application is directly visible in this detail.
Daily care rules are simple and effective. When acidic liquids such as lemon, vinegar, and wine touch the surface, they should be wiped immediately, and the surface should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a pH-neutral soap. The impregnator should be reapplied every 5-7 years to maintain the stone's resistance to staining. Avoiding direct contact of knives and hot pots with the countertop also extends its life.
